Waste & Recycling Dashboard Scope 3

The Waste & Recycling Dashboard tracks waste generation, recycling rates, and carbon impact across your facilities. Use it to monitor diversion from landfill, understand your waste streams, and see how NetNada maps your data to standard categories. Access it via Analyse > Dashboards > Waste & Recycling.

Prerequisites

  • Waste data submitted through the Task Manager or Data Templates
  • Method selection: Activity (tonnes or volume) or Spend (financial cost)
  • Data attributed to specific facility nodes
If you submit waste data using spend only, only the Total Emissions card will populate. Weight breakdowns, volume breakdowns, and diversion rates require physical activity measurements.

Key Metrics

Total Waste

Physical weight in tonnes across all facilities.

Diversion Rate

Percentage of waste diverted from landfill through recycling, composting, or other recovery.

No. of Waste Streams

Count of unique waste categories tracked.

Total Emissions

Carbon footprint from waste disposal in tCOโ‚‚e.

Waste Stream Mappings

NetNada maps the waste stream names from your data to standardised categories. You can see exactly how each stream was classified โ€” for example, "commingled recycling" is mapped to "paper and cardboard" where appropriate. This gives you transparency and confidence in how your waste data is categorised.

Review the stream mappings table to verify that your contractor's waste descriptions have been classified correctly.

Visualisations

  • Waste generation trends โ€” An area chart or bar chart showing monthly waste by stream type. Toggle between chart types.
  • Waste breakdown by weight โ€” Donut chart showing tonnage percentages by category (e.g., general waste, paper, organic, metals)
  • Waste breakdown by volume โ€” Cubic metre visualisation showing physical space occupied by each stream

FAQ

Why are my weight and volume charts empty?
Weight and volume breakdowns require activity-based data (tonnes or cubic metres). If you only uploaded spend data (dollar amounts), only the Total Emissions card will show a value.
How does NetNada map waste stream names?
NetNada matches your contractor's waste descriptions to standard categories. For example, "commingled recycling" maps to "paper and cardboard". You can review all mappings in the stream mappings table on the dashboard.
What is the diversion rate and how is it calculated?
The diversion rate is the percentage of total waste that was diverted from landfill โ€” through recycling, composting, energy recovery, or other methods. A higher rate means less waste going to landfill.
How can I improve data quality for waste?
Request weight-based reports from your waste contractors rather than relying on invoices. Activity data (actual tonnes collected) provides much richer insights than spend data and enables the full dashboard experience.
