How to manage your emissions measurement tasks

Last updated: 10 April 2026

Task Manager Carbon Inventory Emissions Boundary

The Emissions Task Manager is the central hub for tracking your carbon inventory. It works like a project management tool (similar to Asana, Monday, or Notion) purpose-built for carbon accounting โ€” generating tasks based on your emissions boundary, tracking progress, and coordinating data collection across your team. Navigate to Measure > Task Manager.

In this article, you'll learn how to:

  • Generate tasks from your emissions boundary and reporting period
  • Assign tasks to team members and set due dates
  • Filter and search across your task list
  • Track progress and manage task statuses
  • Upload data directly from a task
Before creating tasks, your organisation must have: an emissions boundary, nodes, and a reporting period.

Creating Tasks

Tasks are generated automatically based on your configuration โ€” you don't create them manually one by one.

1

Click Create Tasks

On the task manager page, click Create Tasks.
2

Select an emissions boundary

Choose which emissions boundary assessment to use. This determines what will be measured.
3

Select a reporting period

Choose the reporting period. This determines when the data covers.
4

Review generated tasks

NetNada combines the boundary and period to generate tasks. Each task corresponds to a GHG category and node combination โ€” e.g., "Purchased Electricity โ€” Sydney CBD Office".

The Task Dashboard

The dashboard shows two key views:

  • Assignment overview โ€” How many tasks are assigned to someone vs. unassigned. This shows governance: who is responsible for what.
  • Inventory progress โ€” How many tasks are completed, ready for review, in progress, not started, or skipped. Tracked over time.

You can also view deleted tasks to maintain a full audit trail.

Task Properties

Each task shows:

PropertyDescription
Task nameThe GHG category (e.g., "Purchased Goods and Services")
CategoryThe emissions scope and subcategory
Node(s)Which facility or entity the task applies to โ€” click the dropdown if it applies to multiple
PeriodThe reporting period this task covers
BoundaryWhich emissions boundary assessment generated this task
Assigned toThe team member responsible
Due dateThe deadline for completion
StatusNot Started, In Progress, Ready for Review, Completed, or Skipped

Filtering and Searching

Use the search box to find specific tasks โ€” search for "electricity", "fuel", "waste", or any keyword. You can also filter by:

  • Category โ€” Filter by GHG category or scope
  • Node โ€” Filter by facility or organisational entity
  • Status โ€” Filter by task status (e.g., show only "In Progress")
  • Assigned to โ€” Filter by team member
  • Boundary โ€” Filter by emissions boundary assessment
  • Period โ€” Filter by reporting period

Managing Tasks

Click the actions menu on any task to:

ActionWhen to use
View detailOpen the full task view to see instructions, uploaded files, and comments
Assign taskAssign to a team member โ€” they'll receive a notification
Set due dateSet a deadline for completion
Mark as completeWhen all data has been uploaded and reviewed
Mark as ready for reviewWhen data has been uploaded but needs someone else to verify
Mark as skippedWhen the task is not applicable to your organisation
Delete taskRemove the task (logged for audit trail)

All status changes are tracked by the system for audit purposes.

Uploading Data from a Task

You can upload data directly from inside a task. Click Upload Carbon Data โ€” the node and category are pre-selected for you, so you just need to upload the file. See How to upload emissions data for the full workflow.

You can also use the Comments section within each task to collaborate with colleagues, tag team members, and leave notes about data gaps or questions.

Use the progress visualisation view to get a quick snapshot of your inventory status โ€” it's the fastest way to see what's done, what's in progress, and what still needs attention.

FAQ

Why are some tasks missing from my list?
Tasks are generated from your emissions boundary configuration. If a category was excluded from your boundary or a node wasn't included, the corresponding task won't appear. Review your boundary settings at Identify > Emissions Boundaries.
Can I create tasks manually?
Yes. Click Create Tasks and select a boundary and period. However, most tasks are generated automatically โ€” manual creation is useful for ad-hoc data collection needs.
What does 'Skipped' mean?
Skipping a task marks it as not applicable for this reporting period. It's different from deleting โ€” the task remains visible for audit purposes and can be reopened if needed.
Can I reopen a completed task?
Yes. Click on the task and select Reopen. This is useful if you discover a data gap or need to upload additional information. The reopen action is logged in the audit trail.
How do I know if my inventory progress is on track?
The progress chart on the dashboard shows completion over time. Check the assignment overview to ensure all tasks have an owner โ€” unassigned tasks are a common cause of delays.
