Emissions Modelling & Manual Entry

Not all emissions calculations happen in NetNada. The Modelling feature lets you input pre-calculated figures from consultants, external tools, or historical records—centralising all your carbon data with proper documentation and audit trail.

How It Works

Some emissions data comes pre-calculated from external sources—consultant reports, specialised tools, historical assessments. Rather than losing visibility of this data, the Modelling feature integrates it into your centralised carbon inventory with full documentation.

1

Select Organisational Node

Choose which business unit or facility the emissions belong to. The dropdown shows all configured nodes, ensuring emissions are attributed to the correct organisational location.

2

Upload Supporting Evidence

Attach the source documentation—consultant reports, external calculation spreadsheets, historical records. These documents become part of your permanent audit trail, explaining how figures were derived.

3

Enter Pre-Calculated Values

Input emissions values in tCO₂e (default unit). The system accepts emissions figures calculated externally using methodologies you specify. Add contextual notes explaining data sources and calculation approaches.

4

Categorise by GHG Category

Select the appropriate GHG category for each entry—Stationary Combustion, Purchased Electricity, Business Travel, etc. This ensures proper scope classification and dashboard categorisation.

5

Specify Time Period

Define start and end dates for the emissions period. The system automatically distributes annual figures across months for consistent dashboard visualisation.

6

Save and Integrate

Submit entries to integrate into your carbon inventory. Manual entries populate the Emissions Dashboard alongside calculated data, with supporting files linked in the audit trail.

Why Use Emissions Modelling

Centralise All Emissions Data

Whether calculated in NetNada or externally, all emissions data lives in one platform. Complete carbon inventory visibility without data scattered across spreadsheets and consultant reports.

Integrate External Work

Consultants may calculate specialised emissions (embodied carbon, process emissions, complex LCAs). Input their results while maintaining documentation of methodology.

Handle Historical Data

Establish baseline years from pre-existing carbon assessments. Input historical emissions without re-calculating from raw data, preserving original methodology consistency.

Fill Data Gaps

When activity data is unavailable, modelling enables proxy estimates with documented assumptions. Note estimation logic and improve data quality over time.

Maintain Audit Trail

Every manual entry links to supporting documentation. External auditors can verify sources and methodologies even for pre-calculated figures.

Flexible Entry Options

Add multiple emission records in a single submission. Handle complex multi-category reports with one upload session.

Who Needs Emissions Modelling

Organisations with Consultant Assessments

Many companies have existing carbon assessments from consultants. Import these results to establish baselines and enable year-over-year comparison using NetNada going forward.

Companies with Complex Process Emissions

Process emissions from manufacturing or chemical processes often require specialised calculation methodologies. Input consultant-calculated figures while documenting methodology.

Teams Handling Missing Data

Sometimes activity data simply isn't available. Use modelling to enter documented estimates with clear assumptions, then improve data quality in future periods.

Organisations Consolidating Multiple Sources

Large organisations may have emissions data from multiple internal systems or business units using different tools. Centralise everything in NetNada via modelling.

Historical Baseline Establishment

Setting science-based targets requires historical baselines. Input past years' assessed emissions to establish reference points without recalculating from scratch.

Emissions Modelling Features

Node Selection

Dropdown selection of organisational nodes (facilities, regions, projects). Ensures emissions are attributed to correct business units.

Document Upload

Attach supporting files—consultant reports, calculation spreadsheets, historical records. Documents link directly to emission entries for audit trail.

tCO₂e Input

Enter pre-calculated emissions values in tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. Standard unit ensures consistency across all data sources.

GHG Category Selection

Categorise entries by GHG category (Stationary Combustion, Purchased Electricity, Business Travel, etc.). Proper classification ensures correct dashboard and report placement.

Date Range Specification

Define start and end dates for emissions period. Annual figures automatically distribute across months for dashboard visualisation.

Multi-Record Entry

Add multiple emission records within a single submission. Handle comprehensive reports covering multiple categories efficiently.

Contextual Notes

Add notes explaining data sources, methodology, assumptions, and limitations. Documentation supports audit preparation and knowledge transfer.

Dashboard Integration

Manual entries populate Emissions Dashboard alongside calculated data. Monthly breakdowns appear in trend charts automatically.

"We had three years of consultant carbon assessments before adopting NetNada. The Modelling feature let us input those historical figures to establish our baseline. Now we have continuous data from 2020 onwards—essential for tracking our SBTi target."
Impact:
  • 3 years of historical data integrated
  • SBTi baseline established with documented methodology
  • Continuous trend data from 2020 to present

"Our consultant calculated embodied carbon for a new warehouse—complex LCA work we couldn't do internally. Modelling let us input their result with full documentation. Now it's part of our consolidated inventory."
Impact:
  • Complex LCA results integrated into inventory
  • Consultant report linked as audit evidence
  • Consolidated view includes all emission sources

"For one subsidiary, we only had high-level emissions estimates—no underlying activity data. Modelling let us include those estimates with documented assumptions. We'll improve data quality over time, but at least we have a complete picture now."
Impact:
  • Data gaps filled with documented estimates
  • Complete organisational coverage achieved
  • Clear notes document improvement pathway

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Emissions Modelling & Manual Entry

When should I use Modelling versus Carbon Data Uploader?
Use Carbon Data Uploader when you have activity data (kWh, litres, transactions) that needs emission factor application. Use Modelling when you have pre-calculated emissions figures (tCO₂e) from external sources that don't need recalculation.
What documentation should I upload with manual entries?
Upload whatever evidence supports the emission figure: consultant reports, external calculation spreadsheets, methodology descriptions, historical assessment documents. The goal is audit-ready traceability to explain how figures were derived.
How are manual entries shown in the Audit Trail?
Manual entries appear in the Carbon Ledger with clear designation as modelled/manual data. Links to uploaded documentation are visible. Confidence scoring reflects the data source type.
Can I update modelled entries later?
Yes. If you later obtain better data or want to recalculate using improved methodology, you can edit or replace modelled entries. Changes are logged in the audit trail with timestamps.
How does the system distribute annual figures across months?
When you specify a date range (e.g., FY2023), the system distributes the total tCO₂e evenly across months for dashboard visualisation. If you have monthly breakdowns, enter them as separate records for precise timing.
What GHG categories are available?
All GHG Protocol categories across Scope 1, 2, and 3 are available: Stationary Combustion, Mobile Combustion, Fugitive Emissions, Purchased Electricity, and all 15 Scope 3 categories. Select the category that matches your external calculation.
Is modelled data included in exports and reports?
Yes. All modelled entries integrate with calculated data in dashboards, exports, and reports. There's no distinction in output—your carbon inventory is complete regardless of how data entered the system.
Can consultants enter data directly via Modelling?
Yes. If you've connected a consultant as an advisor, they can use Modelling to input their calculated results directly. This streamlines the handoff from external assessment to centralised platform.
