The best carbon accounting software for AASB S2 and ASRS reporting in 2026

We scored 32 carbon accounting and climate disclosure platforms against the six questions Australian buyers ask about AASB S2 software, and ranked the 20 we could verify on every one from the vendors' own pages. NetNada ranks first with 92 out of 100. IBM Envizi is second on 82 and Carbonly third on 80.5.

NetNada publishes this page and ranks its own product. The rubric, the weights and a source for every score are below so you can check our work. Where a NetNada capability is confirmed by the company but not yet documented on a public page, the reason says so.

The verdict

NetNada scores 92. It documents all four AASB S2 pillars generated from live emissions and risk data, covers all 15 Scope 3 categories with both activity- and spend-based methods and a guided supplier portal, ships current NGA Factors with NGER methods, and its numbers have been through Deloitte, Grant Thornton and RSM assurance. It gives up points on integration, where Avarni's quicker ERP connections score higher than NetNada's deeper but slower-to-deploy ones, and on Scope 1 and 2 capture, where Carbonly's document-extraction-first design scores 10. IBM Envizi is second on 82, Carbonly third on 80.5 and Avarni fourth on 78.75. Twelve more platforms, including Deloitte's SustainNext, Greener and Drova, are scored where public sources allowed but not ranked, because at least one criterion could not be verified.

Modular, quote-based
  • AASB S2 templates 9 out of 10

Pre-built AASB S2 templates for governance, strategy, risk management and metrics, auto-populated from emissions data and risk assessments, with 1.5°C, 2°C and 4°C scenario pathways. [source]

  • Audit-ready data 9 out of 10

Version history with before/after values and approver records, evidence linked to every data point, audit packs, and NetNada numbers already audited by Deloitte, Grant Thornton and RSM. [source]

  • Scope 1 and 2 data capture 9 out of 10

Upload or sync source documents and NetNada extracts the activity data from invoices automatically, keeping the document as evidence; energy, solar, logistics, fuel-card and travel feeds are also available. Mapping new document types still takes a review pass. [source]

  • Scope 3 10 out of 10

All 15 Scope 3 categories with both activity- and spend-based calculation, global emission-factor libraries, and a supplier engagement portal that guides suppliers through a free data-response flow. [source]

  • Australian emission factors 10 out of 10

NGA Factors pre-loaded and updated when DCCEEW releases new tables, NGER Methods 1–4 applied, and a public emission-factor database with every source documented. [source]

  • ERP and accounting integration 8 out of 10

Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks connectors plus SAP and Oracle, and activity-data feeds for energy and solar systems, logistics, fuel cards and travel; the enterprise connections run deeper than quick API links but take longer to deploy. [source]

AASB S2 is implemented as 166 individual controls across the four pillars, and the most common first-timer mistake is thinking you must disclose on all of them. One Group 1 client only had to disclose on 42.

When another platform is the better pick

  • Pick Avarni if you want the quickest ERP connections (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics, Pronto, Xero) and AR5 for NGER alongside AR6 for ASRS documented in the help centre. [source]
  • Pick IBM Envizi if you are a large enterprise that wants the longest-maintained NGER and NGA factor set (since 2009) inside a broader ESG suite and can budget for Expert Labs integration work. [source]
  • Pick Trace if you want climate risk and scenario work done with the vendor's experts alongside the software, and Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks is your ledger. [source]
  • Pick Carbonly if you are an asset-heavy NGER or Safeguard reporter who wants activity data from invoices and dockets only, with no spend-based estimation at all. [source]
  • Pick Watershed if you run a multinational Scope 3 programme with thousands of suppliers; it ties NetNada on Scope 3 but names no Australian factor source. [source]
  • Pick Sumday if finance or your accountant will run carbon from Xero and a ledger-level audit trail matters most. [source]
  • Pick Greenbase (Envago) if you are in mining, energy or utilities and already report NGER and NPI; its AASB S2 module sits on that base. [source]
  • Pick Unravel Carbon if your operations span Asia-Pacific and your data lives in SAP, NetSuite or Oracle. [source]
  • Pick Microsoft Sustainability Manager if your data already lives in Dynamics and Power Platform and you have the skills to configure it; its ASRS templates are still in preview. [source]
  • Pick Greenly if you report in Europe and want ready-made Codat accounting connectors; it has no Australian factor source. [source]
  • Pick Workiva Carbon or Salesforce Net Zero Cloud if you already run Workiva for the annual report or Salesforce across the business and want carbon inside that platform. [source]
  • Pick Deloitte SustainNext if you want the software wrapped in a Big Four advisory and assurance relationship from day one.
  • Pick Drova if you already run a GRC platform and want the AASB S2 disclosure workflow there, with emissions supplied by Avarni.

What we didn't score. Price isn't scored, because only five vendors publish one and buyers weigh it differently by entity size; it's listed above instead. Scenario analysis isn't scored, because it sits inside the templates test, where it belongs to the Strategy pillar. Calculation accuracy isn't scored, because no vendor publishes a comparable figure. Advisory and assurance services isn't scored, because Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC and Anthesis are channel partners for software like NetNada's; we scored only software they license, and only where their own pages document it.

Sources. Every score comes from the vendor's own pages or help centre read on 7 October 2026, unless marked third-party. Where a vendor documents its approach to a criterion but names no Australian source or connector, it is scored low rather than withheld. Where a vendor publishes nothing on a criterion, the score is withheld and the platform appears in the “also evaluated” table. Service-delivered capabilities are labelled on each card.

What you need to know before choosing

What assurers actually ask for first

On a Group 1 client's Deloitte readiness questionnaire, the first two methodology questions were where the emission factors come from and whether they are verifiable, and whether the latest IPCC global warming potentials were used. In sample testing the same firm tied individual electricity records back to invoices, re-performed the bill apportionment and flagged a factor from a 2022 release that should have been the 2025 one. That is why audit-ready data carries a fifth of the score and why factor version tracking appears in the anchors: assurers check vintage, not just source. (Afonso Firmo, from NetNada's Group 1 assurance work.) AASB S2 and assurance phase-in

NGER uses AR5. AASB S2 points to AR6. Ask which one the platform applies, per line

NGER reporting uses the AR5 global warming potentials in the National Greenhouse Accounts Factors, while AASB S2 refers to the latest IPCC assessment. NetNada applies AR5 by default to stay aligned with NGER and NGA regulatory reporting, and logs the GWP method, factor source, dataset, region and reporting year on every calculation line so an assurer can see which assessment report was applied where. Only Avarni and Carbonly document a per-standard AR5/AR6 split on their sites; that is why they score above NetNada on this test. (Lochie Burke, NetNada.) Emission factor sources

Scope 3 spend factors are usually three years older than the spend

Spend-based Scope 3 is required from your second reporting period, and most platforms map this year's spend to an input-output factor built on data that is three or more years old. Adjust for inflation and currency before you compare vendors' Scope 3 numbers, and expect better data to push the footprint up as often as down. Granularity is not the same thing as accuracy. (Afonso Firmo, NetNada.) Scope 3 emissions calculator

Check how the platform does market-based Scope 2

The most common calculation error we see is a platform applying the market-based (residual) factor to total kilowatt-hours without first removing the renewable power percentage the Clean Energy Regulator publishes each year, around 17 per cent. NetNada produces four ledger lines for every electricity record (location-based, market-based, well-to-tank and transmission losses) and applies certificates only to the market-based line against the residual portion. It is the first thing assured, so ask any vendor to walk you through one bill. (Afonso Firmo, NetNada.) Scope 2 market-based calculator

FAQ

What is the best carbon accounting software for AASB S2?
On our published rubric NetNada scores highest at 92 out of 100, followed by IBM Envizi (82), Carbonly (80.5) and Avarni (78.75). The right choice still depends on your systems and your Scope 3 profile: see “When another platform is the better pick” above.
Which platforms document Australian NGA Factors and NGER methods?
NetNada, Avarni, IBM Envizi, Trace, Carbonly and Microsoft Sustainability Manager name NGA Factors or NGER libraries on their own pages. Watershed, Unravel Carbon, Sweep, Greenly, Persefoni, Workiva, ClimatePartner and Plan A document their factor approach without naming an Australian source.
Which platform is best for Scope 3?
NetNada and Watershed score 10 on Scope 3; IBM Envizi scores 9. Watershed is ranked lower overall because it names no Australian factor source and publishes no connector list.
Which integrates with Xero and MYOB?
NetNada and Trace document both. Avarni, Greenly and Sumday document Xero. Carbonly supports both through CSV export rather than a live connection.
Which integrates with SAP and Oracle?
NetNada, Avarni, Unravel Carbon and Workiva. NetNada also connects energy and solar systems, logistics, fuel cards and travel data for activity-based Scope 1, 2 and 3.
Why isn't Deloitte, EY, KPMG or PwC ranked?
Only Deloitte Australia publishes a named, licensable AASB S2 software product (SustainNext), and its pages do not document emission factors or integrations, so it appears in the “also evaluated” table. EY and KPMG offer configured platforms and services; PwC Australia offers advisory and assurance only. These firms are channel partners for platforms like NetNada, and the page scores software, not services.
Why are some platforms scored but not ranked?
A platform is ranked only when every criterion can be verified from its own public pages. Greener, Climate Zero, Carbonhalo, Drova, Pathzero, Cority and the advisory firms each had at least one criterion with nothing documented, so their partial scores are shown and the gap is named.
Does NetNada publish its prices?
No. NetNada is sold as modules (carbon accounting, climate reporting, supply chain and target setting) and quoted to the organisation. Suppliers invited through the supply chain module share data free. Only five of the 32 vendors here publish a price.
Is NetNada accountant-led?
No. NetNada is built for sustainability and finance teams to own their AASB S2 reporting, with accountants and advisers invited in where useful.
