Upstream emissions

Updated on
October 3, 2023

Upstream emissions are emissions that occur in the upstream segment of a company's supply chain, typically during the production and transportation of materials or products purchased by the business. For instance, if your retail business uses plastic in product manufacturing, emissions from plastic production and transportation constitute upstream emissions. These emissions fall under the scope 3 category and are also referred to as supply chain emissions.
