Carbon offsets are a way to balance out the negative impact of carbon emissions by supporting projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere.
For example, if you take a flight and emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, you can purchase a carbon offset to support a project that reduces an equivalent amount of emissions, such as planting trees or investing in renewable energy sources. The idea is that the positive impact of the project will cancel out the negative impact of your carbon emissions.
